Pet adoption events

Please note: The minimum age to volunteer with RHS is 15 years old. We regret that we cannot accept volunteers younger than this.
Fostering is the lifeblood of the RHS because the number of Foster Homes determines how many pets we can save. This is our #1 need!
Our foster homes take care of the pets while they are waiting for their forever homes. All related expenses for the RHS pet are covered, including veterinary care, medications, food, bedding, toys, treats and crates. All you need to provide is LOVE!
Our intake coordinator works with you to find a foster pet that is a good match for your home. Normally, the foster home will transport the pet to our Adopt-A-Pet events each Saturday, but transportation assistance can be arranged. Our Adopt-A-Pet hours and locations are listed on ourevents page.
Foster homes must have an adult who is at least 21 years old and all pets in the home must be spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations and heartworm preventative.
RHS pets are offered for adoption each Saturday at “Adopt-A-Pet” events. Volunteers staff the event and help with taking care of the pets, set up and tear down, and interacting with prospective adopters. Adopt-A-Pet usually has 2 shifts of 2 hours each available.
Adopt-A-Pet is a great way to help if you have limited time or if you want to interact directly with the pets.
An Orientation Session is held once a month and is required before working at an adoption event. The orientation coordinator will be in contact with you after you sign up to let you know when the next session will be held.
We also need volunteers to assist with a variety of other tasks, including:
RHS Golf Tournament (our biggest fundraiser)
Marketing and Recruitment
RHS may be able provide limited hours (max 4 hours per week) to fulfill community service requirements. Attending an orientation session is required prior to volunteering and those sessions are held once per month.
If you would like to get involved with RHS, or learn more about what we do, please fill in ourvolunteer application form. This brief form will take your name and contact information and areas of interest, and let you read and acknowledge our code of ethics. A member of our volunteer committee will contact you, usually within a day or two, to talk with you further about the roles you are interested in and to get you started with RHS.
